INSTAGRAM FAVOURING PHOTOS IN 2023

It’s good news for still photography, as Instagram chief Adam Mosseri says that the platform has focused too much on videos in 2022 and will look to put more of a spotlight on photos for 2023.
Here’s what Mosserie Said:

“I think we were overfocused on video in 2022, pushed ranking too far, and showed too many videos and not enough photos. We’ve since balanced, so things like how often someone comments on photos versus videos, and how often someone comments on photos versus video, are roughly equal, which is a good sign that things are balanced.”

The news will be welcomed by anyone that feared Instagram was turning into ‘TikTok Lite’ with its huge focus on reels over the past year. Many have felt that Instagram was straying too far from its roots as a still image platform and had become too influenced by the latest trends.

But if the photo push doesn’t result in more engagement for the app, it’s unlikely that
Images will remain a focus.

Ultimately, it’s up to users to send a message to Instagram by engaging with more photo content.
